ABout Marc
Sometimes, a universe of meaning can be found in a question from a child. When Marc Scibilia’s five-year-old daughter asked him about death, words failed. So, he sat on his back steps and wrote More to This—a plaintive tune about life’s big dilemmas and blessings shared with those we love. In an uncertain age, the song struck a chord with listeners, becoming a viral sensation overnight. It's not the first time Scibilia's distinctive sound tapped the American psyche. The Buffalo-bred, Nashville-based singer-songwriter makes soulful music on his own terms, channeling the national mood.
In 2012, Scibilia gained national attention after How Bad We Need Each Other, from his debut EP, was showcased on the TV series Bones. A cover of Woody Guthrie’s This Land is Your Land, featured in a Jeep ad during the 2015 Super Bowl, became one of the most downloaded songs from the telecast. Then came Out of Style, an album produced in collaboration with Butch Walker, and the 2017 single Unforgettable, a European chart-topper. Scibilia followed up with the EP 7th and Christopher and the 2020 studio album Seed of Joy. In 2021, he released the single Dressed for the Weather with Thad Cockrell and went on to produce a string of singles culminating in the acclaimed 2023 album Love You Most.
Along the way, he's toured with James Bay, Nick Jonas, Zac Brown Band and ZZ Ward, among others. Finding inspiration in folk, country, alternative and anthemic pop music, he has crafted a distinctly American sound that's rueful yet buoyed by hope. Driving it all is Scibilia's determination to stay grounded by what really matters. It's a lesson the fiercely independent artist's five-year-old helped teach him. “You chase things your whole life,” says Scibilia. “But the real blessings and beauty of life are right there with you the whole time.”
